SURGERY WORKSHOP

Pre and Post Surgery Focus

Decrease your anxiety around surgery, increase your confidence and sense of control, and become a part of your surgical team.

The research is clear: stress levels affect immune function, inflammatory processes, and general wound healing (1, 2).

I won't deny that the fear around surgery is real, and, it's not the full reality.

You are not powerless in this process.

Evidence-based medicine has repeatedly shown that the more prepared, engaged, and relaxed you are going into surgery, the better the recovery and healing process.

Simplified, your nervous system directly interacts with your immune system.

The part of your nervous system that functions automatically, without conscious effort, is your autonomic nervous system. It's further broken down into two main parts, the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system.

The sympathetic nervous system is known for our "fight or flight" response, while the parasympathetic nervous system is known for "resting and digesting."

Think of the sympathetic nervous system as your car's gas pedal and the parasympathetic nervous system as the brake pedal.

If you need to get away from danger, you hit the gas. But when it's time to stop and be still, we need the brake.

It's hard for the body to slow down, rest, and heal if it's in fight or flight mode.

When the sympathetic nervous system is activated, stress hormones get released, suppressing or dysregulating the immune system, which plays a key role in wound-healing.

The more that we can encourage our body to feel safe, reduce stress hormones, and activate the parasympathetic nervous system, the better our healing process.

This workshop is not merely educational or conceptual.

You'll walk away with:

  • Understanding of the nervous system and how to self-regulate through both your mind and body

  • Strategies and practices for easing fears and anxiety

  • Less stress, more agency, and a practical pathway to better healing outcomes

  • Decreased anxiety around surgery and recovery

  • Use of less pain medication

  • Increased confidence (in surgery and in life)

  • Faster and easier than expected recoveries

Testiomonial from Beth Hutson, MD

Being told I needed to have surgery, brought up a lot of fears and emotions in me...I felt out of control. I worried about the findings during surgery, postoperative issues like nausea and vomiting (as I have had this with all my other surgeries,) pain and healing, my ability to get back to work and activities quickly, and the impact all this would have on others in my life. Because I have seen excellent results in my patients when they participated in Renie's course, I decided to do it prior to my surgery. The results were unbelievably amazing! I woke up in the recovery room and felt great - no pain, no nausea or vomiting, no fear and I had this amazing sense of overall well-being. My recovery was remarkably quick and easy but more importantly, provided me with a keen awareness of the importance of mind and body. With Renie's loving support and calming nature, I learned that, by doing my part, I could have a positive surgical experience...and I did! Thank you, Renie, for sharing your gift with me and my patients!

This one-hour workshop is available to private clients over the phone or in person in Reno, Nevada for $150.
